Biesse Rover 336 retrofit 5i23-7i44-7i66 and 7i33TA was created by Sytreca
Hey everybody,
Right now i'm doing a project for school to retrofit a CNC-woodcutting machine. I already have my MESA config but i'm having issues with the communication between the different cards. I'm using the 5i23 as my main CPU and I'm trying to setup communication between the 5i23 and 7i44. I'm using the 7i44 to communicate to my inputs and output cards. These cards are 7i66-24.
I also need to work with 4 servo engines and for this i am using the 7i33TA.
Is there anyone who can help me or explain to me how i should do this.
Even the smallest bit of information would be a huge help.
Kind Regards
Sytreca

What problems are you having?
Do you have hal and ini files setup? If so can you post them here?

I'm part of the same team as Sytreca to figure this out. Right now we have uploaded the firmware RMSVSS6_8 to the 5i23 card but we are having trouble to connect to the 7i66-24. Do we need fimware on the 7i44 aswell? We know that the 7i66 needs firmware and if we have uploaded this firmware can we just do a "show pin" command to test if the card is working propperly?

You do not want to use the RMSVSS6_8 firmware as that is intended for resolver interfaces
though it should work with the 7I44
The svss8_8.bit firmware is the correct one for a 7I33 and a 7I44.
For the 7I66s pins to show up you need these things:
1. The 7I44 connected to the 5I23s P4 connector
2. The 7I66 connected to the 7I44 via a Cat5/6 cable (straight through not crossover)
3. Field power connected to the 7I66(s)
4. 7I66 must have default as shipped jumpering (set for operate mode)
5. LinuxCNC started
The 7I66 firmware is correct as shipped
though it should work with the 7I44

Thanks for the help.
Now we actually can see the 7i66. Now we are going to try and connect our input card 7i70.
The next problem we have is making our configuration in Pncconf.
Do we need a .xml file from the svss8_8.bit file to select it in this program?
If we need it how do we create this file?
With kind regards.

The svss8_8.xml file can be found here
forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/39-pncconf/2159...upport?limit=6#21641
(Chris hand-built one for someone with a similar config)
The other alternative would have been to use svst8_8 and just accept that you would be hand-editing the HAL for the smart-serial pins. (You should be aware that you will almost certainly need to do that anyway).

It's been a while bit do you Mean that it isn't possible tot use this XML in pncconf? And how do we edit this XML file for the right HAL pins? If you open the XML file it seems that these are mostly just names for all the options but it seems to lack real information?

You probably can use a hand-edited XML in pncconf.
But it probably makes more sense to use the wrong XML file then edit the HAL file.

Hey everybody
We managed to run one of our motors but when we start linuxcnc the motor instantly begins to turn.
We don't know why this happens.
Does anyone have any idea?

That might be normal, depending on what is connected / configured.
If the motor runs-away, then that tends to indicate that the PID is active and the feedback is backwards
If the motor drifts slowly then that tends to indicate that the PID is not active.
