OK, so now its my turn to continue this project.
This is my machine, but Eliot60 and Sytreca did most of the work so far as a school assignment.
Status of the machine so far:

XYZ axis running and tuned
Homing procedure implemented
spindle control working

all i/o connected

Needless to say i am very happy with the progress we've made so far.

Now i want to implement all the I/O operations (there are a lot of them on these machines).

Do i need to make a choice between classicladder and python, or are there some things where there is only one possibility?
How does all this tie in with the GUI and G-code?

Preferably in hal, as much as possible.
Using PyVCP is a nice choice.
Just my way of doing things.

I have also added a contactor on the power mains for more convenience.

I have also added valves on the pneumatic control cirquits of the flaps, so i can have the flaps work fully independent of the spindles.

Hello
maybe, who retrofit Biesse Rover 336, can help? What is the PPR of encoder for Rover 336? Since I find in the documentation what the pitch of each axis is, but I don't know the encoders PPR. So I can't calculate the ENCODER_SCALE used in the .ini file.

You can measure the PPR if you can rotate the motor by hand.
Make several full rotations while looking at the counts change with Halmeter.
It will be a round number either in decimal or binary (so you only need to be accurate enough to tell the difference between 1000 and 1024, for example.)
Making several turns and dividing helps with accuracy as the start / finish alignment is fractionally less critical.
