I want to make a custom panel for gmoccapy so I installed glade 3.8.6 as per Norberts instructions. Glade-3 runs fine but does not show the HAL widgets. Here is my system:
jim@LinuxCNC:~$ uname -a
Linux LinuxCNC 4.9.0-6-rt-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Debian 4.9.88-1+deb9u1 (2018-05-07) x86_64 GNU/Linux
jim@LinuxCNC:~$ ls -l /usr/share/glade3/catalogs
total 20
-rw-r--r-- 1 root users 16795 May 11 12:11 hal_python.xml
The pixmaps folder is there too.
Linuxcnc is installed from the buildbot repository, master branch.
So, how do I make glade show the HAL widgets so I can make a custom panel for gmoccapy? Thanks.

Are you sure they are not there? Possibly off the bottom of the screen? Even when they are there they are not particularly obvious.

Apparently, the glade3 installation put the catalogs in /usr/local/share/glade3/catalogs so that's where it was looking for them. I just needed to copy the files from /usr/share/glade3 to /usr/local/share/glade3. Such a simple thing but confusing for many people, judging from the number of times this question has been asked. In case someone doesn't already know, if you want to find where the glade3 catalogs are installed, use the following:
pkg-config --variable=catalogdir gladeui-1.0
pkg-config --variable=catalogdir gladeui-1.0

Hi,
I know it is hard to find
Mr. Morley has posted this before :
3.8 series is what you need (3.8.0, 3.8.5 or 3.8.6)
There are debs available here-ish:
www.linuxcnc.org/dists/wheezy/base/
in folder binary-amd64 or binary-i386 (depending on your distribution 64 or 32bit)
glade-gtk2
you may need to add
glade-gnome as well
I bet the version you have is 3.20.0 - no good for gladevcp
It worked for me.
