Sharp GP1A51HRJ00F to Mesa 7i76

In another thread I saw the following statement by andypugh. Andy, would this be the correct way to connect the “Sharp GP1A51HRJ00F Screw Mount Slotted Optical Switch” to a Mesa 7i76? Could this be connected as a differential signal?

The ENCA & ENCB signals will be coming from a DYN4 drive. Because the motor is geared1:1.8 I am using this for the spindle index signal.

I haven't used pre-mounted devices, I have always made up my own interface circuit. Something like

looks ideal, it only needs a current-limiting resistor for the LED as an external component, and that could be used as the link between the 5V Vcc and the LED Anode.

Pin 1 220 ohm resistor to pin 3
Pin 2 & 5 to TB3-15 (GND)
Pin 3 to TB3-12 (+5VP)
Pin 4 to TB3-13 (IDX+)

I haven't received the GP1A51HRJ00F I ordered yet but I did get a GP1S51VJ000F that I had on hand to work. It only had to add 100 ohm resistor to get it two work.
