If I want to thread mill, does the spindle shaft need to run an encoder or will a single prox on the shaft be enough to synchronize the z with the x and y travels ?
My spindle max is 6000 RPM.
Running Mesa boards (when I get it running !!!)

Thread milling is just G code, no spindle sync is needed. For rigid tapping you need an encoder on the spindle.
