PC configuration for Mesa 7i76e was created by vmihalca
Hi guys,
I am planning to update the computer I use to control my lathe and in the future my mill.
Do I have to worry about the latency if I'm using a mesa 7i76e? I would assume not, since the board is generating all the signals.
I would like to add an SSD with more RAM and stronger CPU.
Also, in order to see the toolpaths without so much delay, do I need to add a dedicated video card?
I was thinking about an Intel i3 or i5 CPUs
Thanks,
Vasi

Latency is a lot less critical with a Mesa (or Pico) card. But you still need something that never goes above 1mS latency.
(under 200,000 nS is probably as bad as you want to get)

Thanks Andy!
I have another question related to mesa board. The mill that I've ordered has a bt30 spindle and a servo motor with encoder. I want to be able to do rigid tapping and spindle orientation for ATC
Do I need to add any other board to the Mesa 7i76e in order to do all these?

No, if your axis drivers are all step/dir driven a 7I76E should be enough

No, the 7i76E includes a spindle encoder interface. This should be all you need as long as the spindle to motor gearing is toothed-belt and 1:1.
What input does the servo drive require?

I don't know yet the specs of the spindle driver. I will know more once I receive the machine. All I know now its that its a servo motor.
