Mesa 7i78 question was created by blazini36
Looking at picking up a Mesa 7i78 to use with a 7i96 as extra stepgens to control some S/D servos Like Clearpaths. Basically they're going to spin some things that would normally be spun by an outside force for testing. I don't have the board ATM but I'm working on the GUI and hal file. Seems that it's pretty much just a break out board for the 26pin expansion connector and not a serial remote or anything.
I assume all I have to do is change
"loadrt hm2_eth board_ip="10.10.10.10" config="firmware=hm2/7i96/7i96.BIT num_encoders=1 num_pwmgens=0 num_stepgens=5 _st!"
to
"loadrt hm2_eth board_ip="10.10.10.10" config="firmware=hm2/7i96/7i96.BIT num_encoders=1 num_pwmgens=0 num_stepgens=9 _st!"
Are the expansion pins already mapped by hm2/7i96 driver or 7i96 firmware to be the correct pins for interfacing the S/D outputs on the 7i78? Like the address will be "hm2_7i96.0.stepgen.05 through hm2_7i96.0.stepgen.08"?

The pins are mapped correctly for 7I78 if you use the correct firmware:
7i96_7i78d.bit
Note that the "firmware=hm2/7i96/7i96.BIT" configuration token does nothing on a 7I96 so should be deleted.
7i96_7i78d.bit
Note that the "firmware=hm2/7i96/7i96.BIT" configuration token does nothing on a 7I96 so should be deleted.

Ahh so it's a Mesaflash kinda thing, I haven't delved into that yet....
I see there's also a firmware "7i96_1pwm.bit", Does that make the 5th 7i96 stepgen a PWM output? I wasn't aware such a thing existed yet.
Also if the above is true, what would it take to create a 7i96 firmware with PWM on the 5th stepgen, also with 7i78 support?

Moderation now......too much beer could lead to some funny bitfiles.
