Computer Won't Shut Down

I just installed LinuxCNC and the Debian OS from the latest Live Install Image. When I tell the computer to shut down or reboot, the screen goes black and none of the typical shutdown messages scroll by. The computer fans continue to run indefinitely. I can shut the computer down by holding the power button for about 10 seconds.

Any suggestions on how to fix this or directions on how to troubleshoot the problem would be appreciated.

Enable ACPI and/or APM in the BIOS.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I went through all the BIOS screens and found no option for enabling either ACPI or APM. I did note that the BIOS is about 5 versions behind, so I will update that and see what I get.

OK. I updated the BIOS and now it's working.
