Good day, thanks for letting me join this forum.
So I'm brand new to CNC and Linux CNC, but I have been using Ubuntu for about 10 years.
I recently purchased a Bobs CNC E3 router machine and today I watched a few you tube videos about Linux CNC which I installed.
So I really need some help getting the computer to talk to/recognize my cnc, I believe the controller is a "Kestudio" the other info I have is Stepper motors A4899 & A4988 Drivers are "DRV8825".
I am really looking forward to some help here.
Thanks Donny

Looks like the
Bobs E3
kit ships with a GRBL controller. GRBL includes the motion control processing on-board, whereas LinuxCNC is the motion controller. The two systems are not compatible. The only way you'll be able to get LinuxCNC to work with the E3 is to totally replace the controller hardware.
What you need is some kind of GRBL streaming software, such as Universal G-code Sender . All this does is send each of the G-code commands direct to the GRBL controller, one by one over USB. The GRBL controller then handles the rest and commands each axis to move accordingly.

Thanks very much for that quick response/ reply. Not the news I was hoping for, but now I know what I have to do. Did I mention that I hate Microsoft, oh well. I need to make this as user friendly as possible for family members to use.

I bet you could probably run it with Linuxcnc without the GRBL controler. Just using the drivers and an ordinary parallel port breakout board to connect to the driver's step/dir inputs. But doing it that way isn't covered in the manuals that come with the kit.

Universal G-code Sender is compatible with Linux. There are other free variants out there that will do the same thing as well.

The quick start manual for the Bobs E3 even suggests using UGS as the interfacing software
