How many step pulses per revolution of the motor? You won't be able to get any better than that with this servo drive.

If you need better accuracy than the servo drive can be commanded with, then a secondary actuator is the only way that I can think of to achieve that.

I think that your problem is not what you can measure, but what you can command.
