Single Board PC for LinuxCnc was created by vmihalca
Hello,

I am thinking to buy this mini pc with 4Gb Ram and 64Gb ssd to use it only for LinuxCnc
www.aliexpress.com/item/Small-Form-PC-Du...alm/32804200687.html

There was a post somewere where I think I saw that PCW has one of these.
Please let me know if you think its ok, so that I can order it.
I needed 2 ethernet ports since I have two Mesa 7i76e (lathe and mill) and I hope I will be able to hook both of those to this PC
Do you think processor is powerful enough for what I need?

Thanks,
Vasi

It should be OK , note that you really don't really need 2 LAN ports if you don't mind using a USB --> Ethernet or USB --> WIFI dongle for internet

Would that still be realtime? One of the reasons I know ethernet is preferred over the usb, is that usb is buffered.
Did I understood correctly? Do you have the same PC?
How do you find the configuration, is it capable enough for linuxcnc?

I think he was meaning one LAN port for each machine tool, ie 2 x 7i76E or whatever and different configs using each one.

As a tip: You might want to use the loadrt hostmot2 use_serial_numbers=1 option, so that the 7i76 (or other) smart-serial devices are identified by serial number just in case the system swaps the boards / ports around on you.

Ahh, I missed that he had 2 7I76Es

You can also use a Ethernet switch in this circumstance (at the expense of perhaps 100 usec of additional store+forward latency from the switch)

Not much danger of the system swapping boards if you chose a different
IP address for each 7I76E
