Hi,
I have a Deckel FP3NC retrofitted with a Heidenhain TNC360 controller,it has Bosh drives and Bosch DC servos on all axis's.
I have been struggling to get it up and running, so was thinking of maybe converting to LinuxCNC.
I was thinking of replacing the Bosch Cards to Mesa 7i77 cards, from what I have read this can work?
Keeping the original Servo motors.
Never done this before and electronics not my strong point but will get someone to help with electronics part.
Any idea on what I would need to buy - is it just the Mesa Cards and a PC.
Have read that gear changing is an issue or difficult?
Also if I had to do this conversion would it be a better machine than trying to get Heidenhain controller working?
A bit scared of the Bosch Drive cards and Controller. Old electronics and might break after a couple of
Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.
Paul

I think that you would also keep the Bosch drives, but replace the Heidenhain controller (Whilst quite probably keeping any Heidenhain EXE encoder / scale interpolation boxes).
The 7i77 is not a servo drive, it is just a means of obtaining analogue control voltages from a digital computer, and an interface to get encoder feedback back in to the computer. (And it adds a lot of IO pins too)

on the FP2 there are no Quadradure encoders
the Heidenhain 802Encoder got there own wavesystem
You may need to invest 300USD to replace by China Quadradure encoder from a DRO set

Thanks for comments.
Yes seems like best way is to keep bosh cards - is there something I could replace with or not worth it. If mine work will keep. Think they fine.
Which servo drive would work?
So I would need to buy the following:
PC
Servo card/s and 7i77 card/s
Quadradure encoder if I dont have Heidenhain EXE encoders.
Not sure if I am missing something.
Have read that gear changing is difficult but possible?
Or should I change manually if thats possible.
Is there some documentation on doing this I could read?
Would this give me a better machine, suppose if I do myself with some help at least I will have a better understanding of how it works for the future.

EXE boxes are regularly available on eBay. (They convert the Heidenhain sinusoidal signal to a configurable number of quadrature pulses per cycle)T
Quadradure encoder if I dont have Heidenhain EXE encoders.
Here is one way to handle manual gear changes: forum.linuxcnc.org/47-hal-examples/27071...indle-gear-detectionHave read that gear changing is difficult but possible?
