With the release version LinuxCNC 2.7.14 can you pair (mirror/clone) two motors to a single axis? I read a recent post that said you need a beta version 2.8 to achieve this.

Is this true?

You have always been able to pair motors with LinuxCNC
What 2.8 gives you is better separation of joints and axis
and also allows gantry homing/squaring with 2 limit switches per axis
