Hi all.
I'm wondering if there's some way to cheat LinuxCNC so to use it without any parport, controller or CNC machine.
I mean, I've an old laptop wich is good to run LinuxCNC, and I'd like to use it during the lunch break (i.e) to test some modification to LinuxCNC (routines, custom GUI, etc), so to have some fun without destroying the "good" pc used with my CNC.

Thats what the simulations are for that are included in the linuxcnc chooser window on startup.

Sometimes if people just RTFM hahahahahaha

Dnn't mind me I spent the whole day trying to prevent myself getting run over trying to stop others from injuring others, then on the way home had an altercation with some (insert sting of bad words here) muslim that tried to run over a flock of Cockatoos.

I have several VMs installed with Linuxcnc that I experiment with.

Hi all.

You don't even need to cheat, a whole selection of sample configs are available for exactly this sort of use.
some even come with a graphical simulation of the machine.

Start LinuxCNC and expand the "sim" hierarchy. The ones with a graphical machine simulation are in sim/axis/vismach

Old thread but I'm wondering if there is a way of turning my "working" setup into a SIM to play around with when I'm not on the actual machine in the garage?
I know if I try to launch the "real" setup it'll error since the 7i76 isn't responding

I've got to try to get the gear change stuff setup (and get Andy to explain exactly what "compile and install with halcompile" means :)

Anyway, not sure that it matters but if I make any changes and get things sorted out I thought it might be simpler if I could just move HAL/INI etc files to the "real" one rather than trying to duplicate little changes between the two
Thanks
M

Short answer - no, not with external boards (mesa) equipment.

I was always wondering the same question, to busy to try. ..
1. Step use list all mesa signals into one file.
2. Copy into comp and add in/ouput plus var-type
3. Compile
4. Give it the name of the meda card
5. Load instead of real hw this comp file

Unsecure if this is impossible cause of _ sign in naming convention
