LinuxCNC Crashed - What is the name of the error file? was created by fc60
Greetings,
My LinuxCNC crashed. (2.5.5)
On the screen was a window saying LinuxCNC had failed.
However, the computer was locked up and I could not do anything except try to reboot.
Currently, it is not booting.
If I do, by chance, boot the machine, what is the name of the file that show what failed?
I suspect it is located in the var/log/ folder?
Cheers,
David

You might find some evidence of what went wrong on /var/log/syslog or one of its backups,
assuming what failed was not the harddrive.
If the PC suffered from some kind of hardware failure that was not the harddisk
you should be able to boot the drive on another (old) PC and look at the files

When you say not booting, what stage does it get to ?
Does it POST ?
Do you get a grub screen ?
Can you make a selection from grub ?
Have you tried booting from USB or CD\DVD ?

Greetings InMyDarkestHour,
The Motherboard is inside of the electrical cabinet that also contains the power supply and Breakout board along with the Gecko axis driver boards.
Only Ubuntu linux with LinuxCNC is on the hard disk.
I get a POST
No Grub, as there is only Linux installed.
Unable to boot from USB. Motherboard does not support it.
To boot from a CD, I have to remove the motherboard from the electrical cabinet and connect a DVD reader to it on the kitchen table.
Cheers,
Dave

Greetings InMyDarkestHour,
I have no clue as to what boot manager.
Linux is all there is on the hard drive.
By the way, the machine has been running fine for several years. This is a new problem.
Cheers,
David
