Homing the machine is not the problem,

When you home the machine the DRO goes to 0.00, That is what your G code program starts from,

If the 0.00 is in the corner of your machine you need to apply offsets to the dro value to have the program start at the point you want it to start.

You are confusing "homing" and "touch-off"

Once the machine is homed (at the start of the day) the controller knows where the axis limits are and can avoid running in to them. And you can continue a job from the day before, and a few other benefits.

If you want the DRO and G-code origin to be zero in any convenient place, then just jog or probe to there and touch-off. The DRO goes to zero (or any other value) and the part is cut with that point as the origin.

Yes there is an easier way and I just found it recently myself. SO don't feel bad. Just jog to the position you want to start from and use the blue buttons in Gmocappy to touch off X & Y to 0,0 to the G54 offsets. THat will reset your DRO to 0,0.

Recently, I saw Todd shared a snipit of gcode that did this for X & Y at one time. Eventually, I would like to get his in a macro button.

Thanks Rod,

I have been using Axis so I use the touch off button near the home button to do the same thing?

I will give it a try next week.

i think here noone uses a search option

thats also more people may like to use plasmac but 140 pages may get you to think it is not ready to get into

A wise man once said to me "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool then to speak and remove all doubt".
There is absolutely nothing of value in your words so it might be time to reflect upon that statement and how you are perceived.

A search option is of absolutely no value if you don't know what to search for.

I think the fact that those 140 pages about Plasmac represent Open source at its best. From the very beginning, Plasmac encapsulated many different elements discussed here on this forum into one place. So many ideas and input from so many experienced people pulled together by a very competent and responsive developer into a cohesive system. So many people reporting issues identified from actually using it to do real paying work instead of criticising from the sidelines or using it in the classroom, and so many users reporting problems with installing it that has been taken on board by the developer to simplify it for the next person.

Already Plasmac has fed code changes and improvements back into master branch not to mention identifying and getting fixed a number of other issues with LinuxCNC itself. Soon, it will be pushed to master branch. Personally, I think the fact that so many people have been willing to try to use it before it was ready, speaks volumes for how good Plasmac really is.
