LinuxCNC 2.7.14 Debian 7 Wheezy shortcoming

After a successful Linuxcnc installation, I find a desperate need for a text editor which has not been included in the installation. I note that many unneeded applications are there such as "Office" and others that are useless as far as using Linuxcnc. Why isn't a text editor included? I'm having major difficulties trying to install a text editor. I prefer Gedit because that is what I managed to get up and running on a previous installation. However after a couple days of failure in trying to get either Gedit or Geany up and running lI'll resort to anything that works. Any help available is appreciated.

There is " mousepad" included in wheezy.
And that is not an Linuxcnc issue, it is a Linux issue that can easily be fixed as explained in the other thread, in many different ways.

Its awkward now because Wheezy is EOL so the repositories have moved,
meaning APTs source lists need to be updated to point to the archived debs before apt-get will work

I never checked assuming it being named mousepad has nothing to do with being a text editor.

Mouse pad doesn't want to print to printer, only to file. This is after doing Application Menu/System/Printing and finding my network printer.
Mousepad seems not to know that a real printer exists. How do I fix this?

can you print a test page from the printer driver?

You may be able to use the LPR command line utility to send a text file to the printer.
