Hi. I am not able to register my nickname so that I may speak on #linuxcnc. Can anyone please help? I have logged on with my primary nick, I have seen what to register with, yet, I do not know actually where to put it so that I can hit ENTER and it will work. Help?

What is irc?

Yes! That is exactly my point! I simply do not know where to type "/msg nickserv identify (your password here)" into. I cant stop chuckling because I think I'm totally missing something VERY obvious here.

I had to look it up. Apparently it means Internet Relay Chat (IRC).

What is your client app?

I started with HexChat since that was what was spoken of here, I can't remember by who. But, I eventually navigated to the actual site webchat.freenode.chat where I logged on. and yet, i still cant send a message from there either!

as you have registert from a Cliant speeking of hexchat the webchat will not work from the same Ip location

use the client so you got all nice performences

where you can lock on from the real CNC mashie and get help right at the keypress or cnc run

I appreciate your response, but, have I found both situations deliver the same issue. I'd rather use the client and I'm sure will, however, neither is offering something I can see to fix the issue. It seems odd to me. Normally I'd expect to see a prompt or pop up window to add in the registration request or whatever. Yet, there just seems to be nothing. It seems illogical that if they want people to register and use this, they wouldn't make it more obvious to those that are trying. Again, perhaps I'm in the middle of a major brain fart. I can't rule that out as I have been concentrating on getting my cnc step config dialed in, which in fact caused me to look through the forum bringing the Hexchat to my notice. Argh!
