Just a low priority question for a future idea.
as i am still working on finishing my CNC router, i had a thought. if i was to mount a strong cutting/burning laser onto my spindle/router, would it be possible to setup two configurations, depending on if my task requires the spindle for milling, or the laser for burning and engraving? i don't plan on burning raster images. most likely just burning line drawings onto wood.

I used to have a combined lathe/mill. The config folder contained two INI files to configure the axes appropriately for each use.
My current milling machine has a horizontal axis. I have a second INI file for when I want to use that as a Z (for when using CAM, mainly) and a third INI file that configures the machine as a gear hobber.

I forgot to make my main point....
In all configs most of the HAL files are common, as is the tool table. Only the differences are split out into separate smaller HAL files.
