If you can travel at a limited speed at say 10 micro steps and you travel double at 5 micro steps since you need less pulses?

Yes, if your step rate is limited (say with parallel port hardware)
you can often go faster at lower ustep ratios though
at the expense of low speed smoothness.

Thanks, I thought that also but I seem to get the best speed at 1600 pulses per rev.

I must not have the timing right or my scale is off.

It's a keling 5056e I made a rotary axis with a headstock and harmonic reducer at 60 to 1

Is the scale pulses per degree or pulses per revolution?

Scale for rotary axis is in degrees (or Radians or Grads) not rotations

You may get better stepper performance at higher ustep ratios because
the motion will be smoother and less likely to excite resonances which
can lead to stalls

Thanks, but at this point I'm just rapid the rotary.

The motor itself doesn't spin as fast as my x and y steppers which are using gecko 201x drives locked at 10 microstep.

I bought this drive with the intent of only half stepping it but the Hal and ini are setup for the gecko drive timing. In reality it will work fine.

Here is it running, the vibration is the computer case
