Can't ping my 7i96 was created by Muz94
HI, i recently received my new Mesa 7i96 which will replace my chinese DB25 bob, but i'm struggling with the very first step.
I connected the board to 5v power and to the pc (directly) through ehternet.
I moved the second jumper up (this should set the board ip to 10.10.10.10) and i set my interfaces file like in the picture.
However i can't get it to ping, the board has one fixed yellow light (PWR), 1 fixed red one (DONE) and a flashing red INIT led.
Am i doing something wrong?

Thank you

If you have a flashing init light and solid done light you very likely have a 5V power issue

What kind of issue?

I tryed both with pc usb power and with a 2A 5v usb charger (i know that they are not the best sources, but they should work until i get a dedicated psu).

The init light blinking and /done solid red most likely means the 5V is dropping out when it has a load (after the FPGA loads itself ) or the 5V supply has excessive ripple

I see if i can get a 5v psu from work today to check if it solves the issue

However the manual reports this

Mesa’s supplied fallback configurations blink the red INIT LED on the top right hand side of the card if the primary configuration fails and the fallback configuration loaded successfully. If this happens it means the user configuration is corrupted or not a proper
configuration for the 7I96s FPGA. This can be fixed by running the configuration utility and re-writing the user configuration

and

The 7I96 should configure its FPGA within a fraction of a second of power application. If the FPGA card fails to configure, the red /DONE LED CR2 will remain illuminated. If this happens, the 7I96s EEPROMs must be re-programmed via the JTAG connector or (faster) JTAG FPGA load followed by Ethernet EEPROM update.

I dind't flash anything to the board as i never even managed to ping it, so it may have come faulted :(

IT REALLY WAS A POWER ISSUE.

i don't know what's the difference between the 5v - 2a USB charger and the 5v 2a external psu, but with the second it actually works and the board pings .-.

Thanks god for that, i would have had to deal with warranty from a different country.

Proper USB devices should have some sort of handshake to determine current requirements and capability. Perhaps your USB charger is a but too clever?
