I’m trying to update to 2.9 from 2.7. I’ve followed the updating videos and the forums instructions. When I open linuxcnc I get the error message attached. I’ve don’t the python command and just tried the python3 command and still get the same message.

That is not a linuxcnc error message.
Please post the linuxcnc error message that caused you to try to update python-tk

Just did. It was apparently too large of a file and I didn’t know at first so it’s up now

Is there a good reason to use 2.9 (aka master) instead of 2.8?
master is being converted to use python3 etc so will be somewhat unstable.

Your error message seems common though I haven't seen the solution yet.
Can you describe the distro version you are using and possibly link to the forum post you used (there are several)

Chris

I dont believe so. I’m using the Mesa 7i96 board with a ethernet connection though and I think I remember hearing that the newer versions accept Ethernet. Not sure if that’s both 2.8 and 2.9 or just 2.9.

I’m not sure exactly how do do as you asked, but I’m using Debian gnu/linux live (kernel 4.9.0-8-rt-amd64) if that helps. I’ve followed this video along with this thread

This issue is due to the updater not working with the available version of python-tk.
Several attempts by installing anything with python and tk failed.
Linuxcnc is not affected by it, just the updater for the older versions of config file. Editing files manually works always.
