USB connection was created by dlw
Newbie here.
Just purchased a 3040 cnc machine.
Trying to use LinuxCNC to run it.
Went through 'stepconf'.
When testing X, Y and Z axis, there is no movement for any of the axis.
When buying the machine, it was posted as being able to use USB to run the stepper motors.
I plug a usb cable into the PC and the controller. Nothing moves.

How do I go about solving this?

Through USB nothing will move, ever. LinuxCNC does not use USB for control.
But do some pictures of the controller board and the electronics, most of them can be easily made to work with LinuxCNC

Does this mean opening the box that came with it?
If so, should I post them?

Those are simple step/dir drives so they can be used with a parallel port for 10 to 15$, but not with an USB to parallel adapter.
You can buy an add on PCI or PCI-E parallel port card, or even better get a Mesa 5i25 (PCI) or 6i25 (PCI-E) or 7i92 (ethernet)

We should also mention the possibility of running the machine as-supplied through a USB connection and not using LinuxCNC at all.

It will probably work fine with a pirated copy of Mach3 and a pirated copy of Windows, as was probably supplied with the machine.

Does not seem he got any of those with the machine, at least he never mentioned it, but he did say he ordered an USB to parallel adapter, so now that might be a possibility.
