Drop from 2.9 to a 2.8 system was created by photomankc
Hey all,
Been away from the machine for a long time and came back to discover some stuff not working. Worst of which is my old XHC hand wheel, which is now discontinued and replaced with a newer model but of course support for that is not in the 2.7 version I was running. Was time to upgrade to something not 5 years old anyhow so I grabbed a Debian 10 image and followed the instructions here:
Debian 10.4 Buster Linuxcnc quick and easy install
That all went well, but the version of LinuxCNC I'm on is 2.9 and I'm not at all certain that's where I want to be. Is there an easy way to go from 2.9 back down to 2.8. I understand apt only in a passing way so I don't see how I can specify getting 2.8 instead of 2.9?
Thanks!

Maybe try a current stable install ISO like this:

[edit]
there is also a way to choose another version in the package manager but I can't find the link at the moment.

Thanks, mods can nuke this topic. It is not going to run on that OS on this hardware. So I'll back down to wheezy.

Ok, so if you want to upgrade from 2.7 to 2.8 check this out:

2.8 runs on Debian 10 without any issues or modifications, you just need to follow the buildbot as Aciera mentioned. Thanks, mods can nuke this topic. It is not going to run on that OS on this hardware. So I'll back down to wheezy.

Well, i tried stretch first and was successful getting it running by first ripping out the XHC HB04 stuff and then upgrading to 2.8. With XFCE it's running smooth so far.
Debian 10 was just not working out stuttering in the motion and real-time delay errors. This looks good so far. Just need to get the new WHB04B working with it and I'm back in business.

Debian 10 is a mess in general. I used to use Debian "based" distros but never actually Debian. I use Arch/Manjaro for anything that is not a machine. I decided to setup a machine on what I would figure to be the most stable platform.....Debian 10 and found it to not at all be as pleasant to setup as Mint or Ubuntu, though I did get it going.
