Did I remember Peter saying do not put a switch on field power?
There is a switch to turn on dc power 24vdc. Is it advisable not to use this switched 24vdc for field power on a 7i76?

I thought I remember Peter saying not to do that. IS this true?

Yes you should switch the primary power not the DC
Note that this is true of most DC powered devices

OK so this chineese router is switching 24vdc side of a power supply. This would require \rewiring the machine. IS it a DONT DO or a probably shouldnt do thing?

Its really a "don't do" on most DC electronics as there is nothing to
limit the surge current other than wiring inductance when the load
(and its bypass capacitors) is instantly connected to the power supply
(and its bypass capacitors)

OK, thanks....

IT is switching 24vdc to everything except the drives which get 24vdc whenever the machine is powered on. There is an on/off switvh that turns on 24vdc to the rest of the machine. Do the drives normally need 24vdc all the time or better yet would it hurt if I switched that 24vdc also? Yaskawa servo[pack SGD7S

Actually I think I am just going to add a din rail 24vdc power supply for the field power, and switch relays that will send the other 24vdc though to the devices that need them.

/EDIT that way I could switch my 5 vdc power supply also instead of it being on all the time.
