Large files was created by dpedreira
Hi everyone. I'm new to the CNC community. I'm using LinuxCNC 2.6. I am having issues loading large files. I have to divide a large finish file into 2, 3 or 4 smaller files and load them individually. This creates a Z axis problem because you can see where a file stops and starts, it basically destroys the piece. Which version can handle larger file and what's the minimum recommended RAM and SSD gigabit sizes. I appreciate anyone's input. Thank you

How large are we talking about ?
I often used over 4MB files without any issues on some old laptops.
You can try upgrading to 2.7 and see if that changes things, or if you're felling lucky go to 2.8 but beware that 2.8 has a lot of changes from 2.6 and 2.7, so if you are using any special comp you might need to recompile. For standard configs, there is a wizard that takes care of the changes automatically .

This is going to sound odd but I'm not sure how big the files are. What I do know is that I can only go up to about 1 million lines of code. I'm told by Len at probotix that the files size is not the issue, the issue is the several million lines of code. This stuff does not make sense to me. What size RAM and SSD do you have? Also, can I reduce the lines of code and still accomplish the same result? Im trying to do the "Last Supper" all my attempts have resulted in having to load several files on the finish pass. Can you please help me understand all of this better?

Are you trying to do a depth map ? Meaning a picture with different depths with the machine moving from side to side ?
Give dmap2gcode a try, it did work very nicely for me.

I'd like to send some pictures of the issue I'm having so you can see what I'm trying to do. The pictures are too large to send on here, may I email you?

Use GIMP to scale them, it is included with most Linux distros, or install it by running this in a terminal
sudo apt-get install gimp

I deleted it, it is not prudent to post e-mail addresses on public boards, it will get you plenty of spam.I see my email address did not go thru.
