Modified example etch servo to 5 axis was created by Profed81
How can I modify etch servo configuration from a 2 axis to a 5 axis?
I bought a lpt pci port to have more inputs.
I can't buy servo drivers because I have no money :)
In the image below is the type of the machine that i wants to control

Attached you will find a ready made config with 4 axis and a VCP panel that shows everything from PWM output to encoder inputs, just add another axis.
Some editing required, but for 4 axis it works as is and it looks like this:

I think linux can only handle up to 8 encoder inputs, so what function should I add to the hal code to add a steper motor on the 5th axis?

LinuxCNCs encoder component can handle up to 8 encoders. Why would you need more than 5 encoders? (or possibly 6 if you have a spindle encoder)

I mean 8 channels, does that mean 4 servo motors?

No, that would support up to 8 servo motors with encoder feedback to LinuxCNC

It is attached in the above post, no compiling, just unzip and start linuxcnc with the included ini file.
It does use parallel ports.
