That would be a normal XZ lathe, and since LinuxCNC can control more than one spindle, you can have both of them controlled by it.

So would the A be a spindle or an axis or both? Because if it is an axis only then you would have a XZA mill where the y axis is wound around the A.

so linuxcnc can use the spindle as a servo/stepper, as in DIR and STEP controlled?

A axis would be the chuck, the router is simple one and off.

If A only needs to be rotated as an axis (low speed for milling with the router) then its simply a rotational axis. The router would be your spindle and your machine would be run with a mill configuration. Like this but without the Y-Axis
If the chuck also needs to rotate at high speeds like a lathe then you will need a larger servo motor (as a stepper motor would be too slow) and your chuck would be a second spindle. But this does not really make much sense when using a router.
Both setups can be controlled using Step/Dir .
