My first remote retrofit, machine is moving was created by bevins
I just got my first retrofit machine moving and homing.
A guy in mid west hired me to help him retrofit his machine from remote location.
Tonight I was logged into his linux mint via teamviewer and I homed his machine and got
all his axis moving.
I am guiding him with wiring diagrams and consulting on what to do with his wires and mesa boards. Just have to get his inverter working now.

I have another one lined up. He just ordered from JT the mesa boards.
I obviously have to pick my customers wisely. Some may not have the ability to do this. So I have to weed them out.
I am heading to Florida here soon for a month and this other guy is a few hours away from my condo, so I may drop in.
The unknown in all this is cost. I am quoting a fixed cost up to a point, then after if there are issues and it is taking longer then expected I will re-negotiate.

Nope, not any more, i just point them to this forum.
Last month i rejected an on site retrofit about 110KM far or around 70 miles, he was willing to pay 4.5K euros total. Nice job, but i do not like to stretch beyond my reach, i am to busy with the new workshop, it started very fast but now it is moving at a snails pace !

Picking your customers will be critical, but how do you do that over remote, initial contact reliably. I think of some of the dumb mistakes I have done wiring up my machines, and how many hours of head scratching it caused, and can see an impatient customer, who messed up, blaming you and souring such a relationship really fast. I hope you experience with this stays a positive one.

Yes I can see that. The one that want to do and understand what a cnc retrofit is would be an easy pick.
There is an implied risk and that is brought up front. One of the first things to discuss. He ultimately has the responsibility.
There are a few types of people wanting to do a retrofit. The ones that want a retrofit usually understands what it is and knows a bit of what they are getting into.
It is clear I am there to guide them not perform the work so they know what they will have to do and if they are comfortable with it.

Years ago I did the programming for a machine that would seal pills in a blister pack remotely (long before Teamviewer or Skype). It was on a GE 90/30 and it worked the first time.
And you are correct, I tried helping out a second guy, but he had no electrical ability at all and couldn't understand my instructions. The first guy didn't understand machines either, but he was good about wiring things up the way that I asked him to and it was no problem.

Hello Guys, i own a 3040T on a JP-3163D Controller board
I am fit in computers but new at CNC...
I could fix the Hardware /Software so that I can move the 3 axles by keyboard via Linuxcnc but when I start a program, the machin stops after some kind of inicialicycing (only the simulation on the screen gos on...)
I think it is a problem of wrong ranges/calibration...
Anybody out there who can have a look be teamviewer or anydesk?
Thanks to all, have a funny day
...
