hello folks ,
first of all you do a great job , all of you !
but I'm a bit frustrated ,
I installed 2.8 tried gmoccapy , yes got it running , but with a few bugs , home all does not work.
installed 2.9pre with gmoccapy and probe screen V2 , after a lot of manual fixing , houndreds of pages I got it working (two weeks)
after a HW failure I had to reinstall everything , I still did not get it working again , always the same problem , "old" different versions on github .
please delete "old" , buggy versions ... this is so much frustrating and moves people to windows ,
if you have a windows version in 98% it is 2 clicks to installs and it works .
Live would be so much easier if the "waste" would be deleted.
ok , fire on and blame me
kind regards

You could have just removed the HDD/SSD from the old failed PC and insert it into the new PC, everything would have worked as it was before the crash.after a HW failure I had to reinstall everything ,

I feel for you - it's frustrating.
Linuxcnc has a steep learning curve even without problems.
The old pages was that v2 probing? if so that's not official linuxcnc code so we have no control of github versions.
If Gmoccapy was the issue, can you elaborate?
If using 2.9 you are using unreleased code but usually that's not a big problem.

Linuxcnc is challenging system, to succeed you need familiarity with or willing to learn:
• Linux system administration (this one is tough one, if you add by mistake one space to a Linux command you could
end up with a bold head pulling your hair before you figure it out, Linux is of no help, it will just spit out all kind of
gobbledygook.
• Computer programming C to understand HAL and Python for HMI.
• Mechatronics (this one could cost coins, if blow out your electronic board or you miss spec motor, ballscrews, bearings …
• machine tool programming and operation.
So, to be successful, you must have a bulldog temperament; once you latch in on something you don’t let go until you have it figured out. Otherwise you end up with a garage full of useless stuff.

Giving up is no option, ever.
Procrastinating only makes things worse.
Resistance is futile.
P.S.
