Hi everyone, I'm going to purchase a probe but not really sure which one to go with, doe's anyone have any input on which one they think is best to run with Linuxcnc on my 3 axis milling machine. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Mike

The best is probably a used Renishaw, if you can find one at a good price. (I did, it was advertised as a "Renshaw" and nobody else had found it)
I have no experience with vers.by/en/touch-probes/9-vers-pr.html but I do know that he wrote the LinuxCNC probe screen, so is at least a LinuxCNC user. (but there was a recent mention of operation at 24V not being reliable)

I got one of these
HALLMARK ITTP - Impact Tolerant Touch Probe
. Not cheap but durable. Although, I have thankfully not put that to a test yet. I've had it a couple of months now and I am very happy with it.

so would any probe basically work, even a mitutoyo or any renishaw, or do they have to have certain specs to work with linuxcnc?

As long as you can get the input as a true/false in to HAL then they will all work.
And, even then, there are other ways:

I am loving my Drewtronics probe and it is very accurate and repeatable, I am seeing a deviation of +/- 0.0001" on repeatability .
