I am successfully using my single axis linear stage with linear encoder. I need to move my system to the Cordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), so it's bit difficult to move my computer there.

Now in my knowledge I have two options to make my system portable.

1) Using laptop.
2) Using Raspberry Pi.

I don't have much knowledge of Raspberry Pi, I will learn it later, for now I am planning to use my laptop (4GB RAM, 250GB SSD, Ryzen 3) to install real time linuxcnc in it. I have already installed (tried many times) linuxcnc in my computer, so I know the process and hopefully in similar way I can install in laptop too.

Please let me know that my laptop configuration is ok to install and use Linuxcnc?

Or do you have any suggestions for me?

Laptops are usually not good linuxCNC hosts because they have power management
systems that cannot be disabled. You may get away with using a laptop for testing
but often you will get huge (10 millisecond or more) latency spikes when:

You change backlight brightness
You change from wall to battery power
Fan changes speed
etc etc

Does the machine need to move the CMM, or is it just displaying positions?
You might get away with inconsistent latency in the latter case.

And, _some_ laptops work fine. The only way to know is to test.
