Dear LINUX CNC Community,

my name is Johannes and I am from Limburg, Germany.
Years ago I build my own CNC machine.
Now I have replaced the old PC and bought a new one.
Problem ist that the system is working in general, but if I start an Gcode
it fails very quickly and it is not stable running. I guess the latency could be an problem.
Please help me, maybe some experts can read my Test results , see appendix.

Thanks a lot :-)

The latency looks OK.

What version of LinuxCNC are you running? The error list reports issues with shared memory. I suspect that you were previously running LinuxCNC v 2.3 and have upgraded to something newer and the config has changed.

If you run one of the sample configs, do you see the same problems?

Hello Andypugh,

I tried out both versions Linux EMC² 10.04 and also an older version LINUX EMC² Version 8.04. I guess it would be helpful to check the RAM. The PC stops / hangs up itself serveral times ... If you think that the Latency Test is ok I check my Hardware. Which critera shows me that the latency test is fine ?

Thanks for your help

A latency of less than half your minimum step period is probably OK in general.

I tried out both versions Linux EMC² 10.04 and also an older version LINUX EMC² Version 8.04.

Those are both very old. 10.04 was released April 2010 and 8.04 is from April 2008.

With a new PC it is probably worth trying a new Linux, try the current LiveCD from:

Yes. If you make a backup of your entire "linuxcnc" directory you can then make a clean LinuxCNC install, copy the configs across und das war's

Which version can you recommend for the installation ?

I think I would start with the standard LinuxCNC installer image .

Hello Andypugh,

I have received my new PC.
Everything roks fine with Linux CNC and Debian 10.
Non I try to mill a round wooden part and an other problem occurs. ...
The limit switches react due to little vibration and so want to ask
Are there any options in LINUX CNC to changes the reaction time or to deactivate
the switches for dedicated situations where vibrations occur for example ?`

Additional I get many new information which are shown now in the left corner.
Normaly I need only X,Y,Z position and thats it. Is is possible the configure the
parameters which are shown in the left corner (positions tools etc.)

Thanks a lot for your help and please enjoy your weekend
