PRECIX 4X4 CONTROLLER UDATE was created by chalky
Hi all , newbie here from the uk in desperate need of some help . Ive got a 2001 precix 4x4 machine that i would like to upgrade the motion control . Its currently using galli motion control boards which were upgraded some 8years ago from the linux floppy drive to ethernet ( before my ownership ). it has servo motors which i believe are Astromechs with renco encoders and the gold copley 800-760 drivers.
My question is can i replace all of the galli control boards and use an offline motion control system such as the SMS5-N-N and use both my current servo motors and motor drivers ????
ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED
MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE

Maybe. But only if the existing drives accept step-dir control.
Why not use LinuxCNC instead?

Hi Andy thanks for your reply , can you suggest the Linux route please. ? Parts required to connect to existing dc servo motors and Copley corps 800-760 anologue drivers ? I’m grateful for any help /advise your able to offer . I opened up the control box last weekend to try and see what parts were used and it just looks a complete mess so I would really like to update it .

You do realise that you are asking this on the LinuxCNC forum? A forum dedicated to the LinuxCNC CNC controller?

I guess you'll want to use LinuxCNC with a Mesa card to interface with your drives. Do you have a manual for the drives?

Looks like a DC servo drive, tacho feedback, +/-10V control.
(Going by the pin names)
Having a look around on the Copley Controls web site, I found this:
www.copleycontrols.com/wp-content/upload...00_Series-Manual.pdf
Which is for "200" series drives, but oddly these have model numbers like "800-07" so the description there might be similar to your drives.
In any case, it looks like a job for a Mesa 7i77 or a Pico PPMC.
