Joypad hal_input problem

Trying to get a joystick working. I am following the Simple Remote Pendent instructions.
The problem is that after I put the
loadusr -W hal_input -KRAL Logitech

EMC2 will not load and I get a debug error saying the Device "logitech" not found.

I went through the halcmd and halmeter and can see the joystick fine in there.
It spits out the name Logitech Logitech Attack 3 as the name of the device.

Sometimes when I go to start EMC2 I get a debug report saying "hal_input" program failed???

I even went through and added the SUbsystem file but that did not help.

The frustration is setting in.............

The only thing I have added to the hal file is "loadusr -W hal_input -KRAL logitech"

Only thing added to the ini file is the HALUI = halui in the hal section

and I made a file called 51-plugdev.rules and saved it in rules.d
The file is a text file that says:

SUBSYSTEM=="input" , mode="0660", group="plugdev"

Hello,

Not sure it is a good idea to use the name "Logitech", have you tried naming it "Attack"?

Also, perhaps it is case sensitive (It is not clear whether you have "Logitec" or "logitec" in the post.)
The name needs to be correct and unique, if hal_input finds a mouse first, then I can't see it working well.

I have tried "attack" . I did not pay attention to case though. I will have to check that, but I probably tried that because I have been working on it for hours.

Looking at the screenshot, I wouldn't normally expect hal_input to be in /usr/bin (I don't think). This might be because my system is a run-in-place, or perhaps there is something odd about yours?

Ignore that last message, on a LiveCD install usr/bin is exactly where hal_input ends up.

Am I right in thinking that it all works fine from a halrun prompt, but not when you start emc?

Ya, If I run the from the prompt I can check the numbers and everything works, axis and buttons. When I add the loadusr line to the ini I get the errors that you see. So I know that the joystick is working just emc won't start.

Can you paste your HAL file to www.pastebin.ca? Let's have a look.
