Nah, the Synologys are pretty quiet. I've had one at home for 10 years with a 5 drive array and I replaced a drive the other day for the first time. In any case the rack at work is tucked away upstairs. They are good for video surveillance..... They Just work. You just give the linux box an account on the NAS...

In the absence of a server at work I use Google drive to transfer files.
At home I used a Synology NAS and its on the list at work. Just I want a rack mount one and they are expensive!
Hope you have a sound proof room. seems anything that is rack mount tries to out do a Top Fueler for noise.

Here i also have a synology nas for moving the files to the machine. It supports smb and nfs.
