Manual machine + scales + mesa card + linuxcnc = DRO? was created by NewGuyJim
Is there any reason LinuxCNC won't give at least position indication, given input from suitable scales? My intention is full-on CNC conversion but manual work will enable that, and that leads me to my question.

I don't understand the question.
Do you mean can you use LinuxCNC as a DRO (with no output / motor function)?
Yes.

You need to set the GUI to showfeedback rather than commanded position, but as long as you do that, it will work as a DRO.
(And it would be very easy to make a DRO-only config if you wanted, DRO is a single GladeVCP widget.)
