Hi guys, i am Michael from germany.
i would like to tell you first something about me, before i step into my question, which is bothering me.
I am 30 years and elektrical engineer working by a global connector company called Molex.
In my free time i am working on my CNC machine and since 5 years on my 3D printers. My first CNC machine i let run on Linux CNC previously called EMC2. It was great working until the moment i wanted more then the LPT could handle. there i had not the money for Mesa cards.
Today my CNC runs on Edding CNC because i got the components cheap and easy. But still i have a idea in mind where i want to work with Linux CNC.
I build a big 3d printer which runs currently also under Edding cnc on some used components, with nice speeds (up to 1m/sec movment) but it cant handle it mechanically with the acceleration. My plan is now, to fit a second extruder to the first one for support material and i also want to change the belts to ball screws for geting more precise high speed prints.
Edding cant handle 2 extruders, and the standard boards for 3D printers are not capable to handle external stepper amplifiers well. So my thought would be, to control it with Linux CNC like a CNC machine with 3 heatings.
Can Linux CNC do this? I guess so, according to what i know from it.
Edit: I was thinking about a 7i76E board witha 7i87 Analog extension card for the temperature feedback over sensores.

LinuxCNC can drive 3D printers, and there are some out there.
There is some concern about the extruder axis interfering with path blending. (as the fast trajectory planner only works with XYZ)
If this is a genuine problem then it will show up in a simulator. Perhaps you could create a simulator config with the same parameters as the EdingCNC setup and compare run-times?
