Analog servo or step/dir? was created by vmihalca
Hello,
I am analyzing the options I have for retrofitting my lathe.
Now I have Sinumerik 805 with analog drives, and in the future I might consider changing the drives & the motors to absolute delta servo motors.
I am trying to decide whether to buy a Mesa 7i97 and use it with the current drives...but not sure what would be the downside of controlling the delta drives with analog signal. (not sure if I can get the max of their potential)
Another option would be to buy a Mesa 7i95 + 7i83 (to be used with the current drives).
If you have any pros & cons, let me know!

I would suggest going with the current drives and analogue control.
If, in the future, you decide to change then you can try the new servos with analogue, and if it isn't satisfactory you will be at a point that changing the Mesa card probably won't look so expensive.
