Servo control over rs232 was created by DrHelix
Hello,
I am relative new to EMC2!
Is it possible to control a servo amplifier with EMC2 over rs232?
The amplifier is a metronix ARS 310 / 10.
In the manual is written
The RS232 protocol is mainly intended to be a parameterization interface, but also allows the control
of the servo positioning controller.
Thanks

Probably not, as the RS-232 link is for setup or using the ARS as a smart drive.
EMC is not designed to work with smart drives, and works best when in full control
of the servo motors, that is, EMC should be the position controller, not an external box.
It does look like the ARS could be run in analog +-10V torque mode by EMC

thanks for your reply!
Yes this was also my thought....
normally this type of servo is used with -+10volt, enable signal and the decoder signals.
So is the Mesa 5i20 card enough to control 3 axis with this type of amplifier?
