Mesa 7i76e connection lost was created by roland206
Hi
I run linuxcnc 2.8 and a MESA 7i76e(d) card. So far everthing up and running.
It happens that the ethernet connection gets randomly lost.
The ethernet connection is a 1-by-1 link to the Mesa card.
I tried the default IP and the 10.10.10.10 IP.
I tried the same setup on different computers with similar results.
any idea ?

Assuming using the official 2.8, so Debian Buster with the built in WiCD network widget, so that will not work for using ethernet and wifi at the same time, it will disconnect etherenet as soon as you try to connect to wireless.
Also, you will have to set a static IP for the wired connection and connect the PC directly to the Mesa board.

Thanks for the reply.
However, as mentioned I have the same problem on another PC w/o WiFi.
Find attached the "ip a; uname -a" from the other PC with the same problem.
On the second PC it hapens less often (about every 3 minutes).
Anyhow, thx for helping
Roland

In booth cases the same issue, there is no network setup for use with Mesa board, PC must have a static IP address to communicate with Mesa, the manual refers to setting the board IP to default 192.168.1.121 or to set it to 10.10.10.10. Depending on the above, the PC network should be set to 192.168.1.100 OR 10.10.10.11.
Never used WiCD so no idea how to set it to manual, but a quick search should return plenty of results, search for Linux WiCD, not LinuxCNC WiCD.

The docs outline how to make connections manually
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/man/man9/hm2_eth.9.html
If you are loosing wifi, try 2.4gHz as it has better range. I solved my problems doing that.

Thanks a lot. Problem solved.
I should have read the official doccumentation instead of following a youtube video promoting WiCD.
