I cant figure out the term for this to google  but when I boot LinuxCNC and move the machine to its zeros these are then outside the wprk cube.  After doing a g92 x0 y0 z0  to zero everything How do I tell LinuxCNC this is now the zero for the working volume?   This would be the top, LHS in my case.

If I reboot the LinuxCNC software its usually then at the right place ready to go so I'd just like to save doing that as it seems a dumb way to do it, there has to be a better way TY.

Not really following what you are doing and why.

When you boot the machine are you homing the machine to home switches or are you manually homing it and then using G92?

When using G92 X0Y0Z0 all your doing is recoding the difference in the current position to this new 0 position as a parameter. You can reapply the G92 next time by using a G92.3 in the mdi. That may create the behavior you want.

But you should be able to start a machine that was left at a 0 position and run right away or rehome a machine and then run. If you link your HAL and INI it will give a better idea of your current setup. Also what style machine is this? Gantry? Bed mill? At the end of a session do you put the machine back to G53 X0Y0Z0 or something similar?

I think the original poster is looking for how to use the work coordinate systems G54-G59?

Maybe these topics from the docs might be useful.

Use the GUI "touch off" buttons. (Which actually use the equivalent of G10 behind the scenes)
