When attempting to home my machine

When attempting to home my Probotix machine with LinuxCNC I encounter two problems:
1- the spindle slowly descends towards the table and will not stop unless I hit emergency stop. 
2- or it correctly Z's but then starts to travel to the far right as if X,Y homing was at the far right instead of the far Left. When it arrives at far right it starts banging against the side wall. I hit emergency stop and bring it back far left to the homing area. 

Anyone experience this and have a remedy? 

MOst likely running the wrong direction in homing setup or home switch connected to wrong axis
Or home switches are wrong state.

1 - check connections are to the correct motors. 1 at a time. 
2- change direction of home in ini file by adding a " - " symbol to go the opposite way to find home.
