stepper driver setup values? was created by ncf250sd
Hey everyone,
I have been using these driver settings on my CNC mill. I have recently added linear scales and was doing some tuning and thought it would be best to make sure my drives are set right.
DIRSETUP = 10000
DIRHOLD = 10000
STEPLEN = 5000
STEPSPACE = 5000
I have attached two drive specification sheets that I hope includes the information needed to more accurately setup my drives. The only problem is I can't decipher the information. Can someone take a look and see if the information is in there.

Looking at the specs you could probably halve those values, tho if that would improve operation is for greater minds.
Although I wouldn't reduce the timings by half, I'd allow a little extra headroom.
My interpretation would be, in reference to DM860E.pdf figure 10 and remarks:
t1 would not be an issue, unless you are enable & disabling your drives.
t2 would be the value used for each of DIRSETUP & DIRHOLD
t3 & t4 would be STEPLEN & STEPSPACE respectively

a) t1: ENA must be ahead of DIR by at least 5us. Usually, ENA+ and ENA- are NC (not connected). See
“Connector P1 Configurations” for more information.
b) t2: DIR must be ahead of PUL effective edge by 5us to ensure correct direction;
c) t3: Pulse width not less than 2.5us;
d) t4: Low level width not less than 2.5us

I would leave it at 5000.
It is to risky to use values stated in the manual, even if they work.
If the drives were made by Yaskawa or Sanyo or Delta, those you can always trust.
