error message "joint 1 amp fault" was created by sibelius
Good evening everybody

I am experiencing a problem with my machine.
Today I turn the machine on and while I was homing I heard a screeching noise and soon after the message "joint 1 amp fault"
So the first thing I did was to check my Y axis motor (I have two motor that operate in this direction; Y ands A).
I turn the machine off to free the limit switch manually.
Next step was to power the machine on again and check the motor and what I observed was that the motor was not lock but the shaft could be turn without effort.

My first thought was the driver or the motor failure.
I swap the Y drive with the Z drive and the Y motor represent with the same issue so my conclusion is: the drive is ok.
I swap the Y motor coil cable and the encoder Y cable with the A motor coil cable and the A encoder cable and at this time the problem appear on the A motor and not in the Y motor so my conclusion are that the motor is ok.
At this point I start to think that the problem should be along the Y line.
I have tried to check for current continuity and I was not able to find any loose or interrupted cable along the Y line.
I tested  the Y cable for the coil and the encoder and they seems ok; the power supply seems fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
V.

Are you actually seeing the "joint 1 amp fault" in HAL does it state true or false (i do not know how your setup) Do your other joints state differently than joint 1 ?

My amps on my machines open the fault contact in a fault condition, which in my case the input pin will be high for a fault condition so an open contact at the drive/amp or an open wire will tell the controller that there is a fault with the amp/drive on that axis.

Do you have any light indications on the amp/drives ?
What is HAL telling you for AXIS 1 and the others for "AMP FAULT" ?
Do you have individual amp enable, or are your amps individually protected fuse/breaker ?

Have you tried to jumper out the amp fault contact on the amp itself to validate the circuit and to the controller?

You have not told us what drives you are using. Stepper/Servo /Make/Model?
Consult your drive documentation for what can cause a fault signal.
If the drive makes a screeching error, to me that implies a mechanical fault and the motor or rail siezed (happened to me the other day) or a misconfiguration error (accelleration or velocity too fast)
But if there is no holding torque and it works on another  it suggests a wiring  fault or failed drive/amp.
Your tests indicate a wiring fault but i would make sure I tested a different drive/amp on the Y axis to see its not the drive/amp.

Hi everybody

Thanks Jake and Mr Rod, you can see attached my Chinese step drivers.
I finally find the problem.
It was a bad soldering on the 4 pin connector for the Y axes; I just resold and now is ok.

I notice that sometimes when I am in the middle of a tool change and almost always when I stop a program to restart from a certain line I get a message like" probe activated before probe touching" and the machine froze in that position.
The message is not exactly that, I just do not remember;
This happened after the second measure on the same tool; My macro touch ones at a certain speed and than again at a lower speed.
I attached also my tool change macro.

My electronics is very badly done, I am lazy and anxious to see the router going but at some stage I need to rewire everything also because it takes a huge amount of time when something like this happen.

Thanks again to both of you for your precious help.
Obliged.
V.
