Saw this thought of LinuxCNC, in essence it apears that Intel may be supporting PREEMPT_RT going forward.

Intel also supported fast booting Linux, back when there was someone "not an idiot" running Intel, they aimed and managed with the help of Linux community a time to full boot of 10 seconds, then someone did 10 seconds booting from a CD and everything went quiet ... :)

Don't  be too hard in Intel. There are a lot of powerful forces behind preempt-rt. Eventually it will be the default kernel. Real time becomes more critical as each day goes by...

Really? We are still using Pentium 3 architecture for over 20 years (still better than Pentium 4 arch. that was only good for Quake 3), every year or two "new revolutionary processor" that does nothing new, except forcing us to buy a new board with it and fill the trash with old ones, 11'th gen is slower than 10'th gen, took 5 gens to pas "2600" performance, 14+++++++++++++ nm ..... should i continue ?
They single handily put the brakes on any advancement of CPU technology for over 15 years, while GPU's moved on, no wonder now everything uses GPU instead of CPU.
20 years ago i was having coffee at the Marriott hotel in Prague with the vice president of Intel.

Real time has no benefit for a desktop nor server, so I can’t see a reason for it to be the “default” kernel.
As for Intel, I still miss my PPro system, it always felt sweet. Yeah a side by side comparison with a current CPU would make it look slow.

Maybe Intel could do something hardware wise to improve RT latency, but would the various 3 letter agencies like that ?

Oops that was a tinfoil hat moment.

No no no that was just pure satire. I don’t believe a single word I said and neither should you.

Wait until linuxcnc gets to the Debian repos. PREEMPT_RT image becomes a dependency....
It might only be a few weeks away as what I am hoping the final iteration is in the Debian new queue for final review...
I'll be on to Debian testing at that time for sure!
