Ethernet was created by SCLCR-2
Hi to all,
I am looking at an Emco PC Turn 55 with no controller.
It has an ethernet cable for it connection.
It seem to me that I should be able to plug it in to an ethernet port on my computer that it should run without any extra boards.
     How is my logic?
     Thanks.

Most of this kind of stuff isn't as simple as plugging it in and the machine install all the required drivers.
Has this machine been converted to linuxcnc with a Mesa card ? if yes then you will need to set up the Ethernet port. If it's still
the original hardware then you will need to follow the machine's manual or hope you can download one off the net.
 Then follow it's instructions.
That said if it doesn't have a control computer you will either need to find one or
a re-fit is in order . A Dell Optiplex 9020 sff with a Mesa 7i76E card are my current favorites.
If the machine is using servo's then the 7i97 would probably be the Mesa card of choice..

The Ethernet connection is probably for the Emco PC Turn 55 Control board and not an Ethernet port.

So with my brief research this refit can become a nightmare.

Why????
Did you read that it MIGHT have a Mesa board, meaning it can be ready for use with LinuxCNC?

Some of the earlier EMCOs with 25 pin connector were able to be converted to linuxcnc. Samco aka Skunkworks worked it out. I know its posted on CNCzone, maybe its here on the forum too.

Search for Skunkworks on this forum turns just a single post!
Google was better, here is a topic with links to another forum, the link does not work but the search function on that forum works, so i do a search for Emco and ... it returned over 60 pages, so i ran out ! :)
