is it possible rotate a WCS around the Y axis for a Linuxcnc setup in lathe mode?

Yes and no.
there is a hacky way to do it by defining a Y joint/axis in the INI.
You get an warning message in the terminal but then you can use G10l2 to rotate around Y

I can live with hacky :)
What I don't understand is how to change the behaviour of G10 L2 for Y axis rotation, my understanding is that it rotates around the Z axis by default.

I'm sorry I guess i didn't read your request properly.
you are right you can only rotate around Z - I was thinking you wanted to mirror the X axis

no worries, the idea was to do chamfers/tappers in a way similar to how a compound slide works but it's no big deal it can be done in other ways in G-code and some math.
