Making the right choice for mesa boards. was created by Epicenter02
Greetings to everyone.
Im new in the retrofit field and l have a Fidia Digit 165F Vertical Machining Center in a very good condition. I want to try to retrofit this machine, and install Linuxcnc so it can be operated easily, but Im lacking the knowledge. I have no idea which mesa boards should I use and can satisfy my needs. All im trying to do is to isolate the machines CPU and fit the mesa boards in the electrical cabinet. I can keep all of the machines peripherials and interface, I just need to control it with the mesa boards and communicate with it via ethernet. I will be learning new things and gain experience trough the process of retrofitting :) . So, can anyone help me make the right choice/ give me some advice?
Thank you in advance. :)

Start by figuring out the basics of your machine electronics:

* How are your servo drives controlled? Digital bus (what kind?), +/-10 V, step & dir, ...?
* How many digital inputs will you need? Do they need to be sinking or sourcing?
* How many digital outputs will you need? Do they need to be sinking or sourcing? What voltage and how much current should they handle?

When you have the answers to these questions we have a chance att giving you some recommendations about which board(s) to get.
