Keyboard jogging - is there a fix for stuttering? was created by skunkworks
I have noticed lately that usb (and maybe ps2) jogging on the systems I have been using is stuttery. Like the pressing of the key isn't always getting to linuxcnc. Slightly annoying on small machines as you get a chunky jog. (no stalling or such - just that the motion isn't smooth)
Now - I have a little emco lathe that was running debian 9 (stretch) and needed to update it to buster so I could run master. before the upgrade keyboard jogging was smooth - after - the stuttering appeared. Is there a tweek to the linux keyboard to increase polling? (if that is even the problem)
thanks!

I noticed a few things when "upgrading" from 9 to 10 that have slip slided backwards like the screen manager thinks that a window is bigger than it really is so even if you click on another window close to a window you might get the wrong window.

You might give this a try:

Seems like autorepeat competes for the grab of the window. Turning it off fixed it at least for the qtvcp screens. I believe Tommy has said it fixes it with axis screens when it crops up as well.

FWIW, I recently upgraded to physical jog buttons, connected to Linuxcnc through a 7i84 and HAL. I previously used keyboard keys for jogging, but the physical jog keys are vastly superior. The motion is much more accurate, there is no overshoot and they are more quick to respond. I never had a problem with stuttering, using 2.7 or 2.8.2

I was just playing around with this - I didn't get any updates from this thread - so I didn't think to look back here.
After setting the polling rate higher - which didn't have any effect - I started playing with the auto-repeat.. Setting it to1 seems to make it work 99.9% of the time..
snowgoer540 - I will give that a try.
tightmopedman9 - yes - physical buttons are way better and so is a hardware jog wheeel... That is normally what I use - just haven't gotten there yet.
Thanks!
